My goal is to get the yard looking good before my daughter graduates high school. So we started this weekend with putting up a retaining wall. I can't wait to start planting so if you have any ideas for flowers, please let me know. I have a great group of friends that did this for me and I am very excited about how it will look when it's completed.

Ideas for planting depend on you. Do you like planting and flowers and weeding or HATE IT?
Makes a big difference. Because the plants would be on the part above the retaining wall and in between (which I LOVE, by the way and I want to do one, but dang, they cost a bundle), I really think boxwood hedge (very tiny) in the back and perennials in the foreground (not tall ones). I just love this boxwood hedge detail you see in a lot of English gardens. They're cheap, they grow together and can be cut squared, but it makes everything look so ... pristine.
I love your retaining wall!
That's a lot of work!! Very cool.
I love the angle of that last shot. What a cool wall. I suggest going to your local greenery (not Home Depot) and asking them what kinds of plants would go well for your area and require little maintenance. Don't make my mistake and buy cute little flowering plants that end up seven feet tall.
